Sombrero Beach

Sombrero Beach and Park offers fun for all ages! From a sandy bottom beach, which is great for snorkeling and swimming with it's clear blue waters, to it's covered picnic pavilions, volleyball courts, and playground. Other amenities include showers, restrooms and free parking. From April through October a small portion Sombrero Beach is a turtle nesting beach. Loggerhead turtles come onto the beach to lay their eggs in the sand. Our home is only about 3 miles away.

Turtle Hospital

Visit the Turtle Hospital to learn more about endangered sea turtles from the rescue of sick and injured turtles to rehab and then to release back into their natural habitat. Sign up to attend a public release on Sombrero Beach.

Dolphin Research Center

Crane Point Museum and Nature Center

Visit the museum with lots of interesting artifacts, learn the history of the Keys and then view the Adderley House which is one of the oldest houses in the Keys. Walk on many of the nature trails and see the tropical woodlands with unique hardwood species and native thatch called Hammocks, beautiful landscaping, butterfly meadow and various wildlife. Stop by the Wild Bird Center, where injured birds are rescued, rehabilitated and then released back into their natural habitats. Spend some time at the Lagoon and watch numerous varieties of Atlantic Ocean fish and watch the spectacular sunset over the Florida Bay at the Point. Curry Hammock State Park

Curry Hammock State Park, approximately 12 minutes from our home, is an ideal destination for kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding! The Park offers large areas of mangrove swamp, rockland hammocks, seagrass beds and 1,200 feet of sandy beach with shallow waters. Other activities include bicycling, fishing, hiking, picnicking, snorkeling and swimming. There are also amenities such as a picnic area with a playground, restrooms and a shower station.
